Can Control started out as an attempt to produce a custom 3D Void One spray can that I could 3D print and paint up, but in producing the can I started to add a backdrop for some promo shots and that ultimately turned into constructing a whole city with buildings modeled from all the estates I grew up on.

As I’ve explored and learned to use the software I thought it would be cool to do a simple camera sweep around the can, this then turned into an animated film with graffiti arrow asteroids attacking the city, the city fighting back, and a giant explosion at the end. Basically everything gets exploded like a cheap 90’s disaster movie.
I’ve been building a custom AR app to make both my studio work and my walls fully interactive. I want to turn my wall paintings into video games. To support the app, I needed to create an interactive book of images that the AI would recognise and trigger from, all of the programming developed from the book would then be applied to real world environments.

Can Control became that book, and in many ways is the culmination of 30 years of professionally fucking around with technology. I’m not ready to give too much away about the tricks I have in the pipeline, but this will be a truly 21st century pop up book, featuring fully interactive and customisable cans, a real time comic book animation, and entire 3D rendered scenes from the animation to be explored and interacted with via your devices.
I’ve thrown together a short edit of some of the clips in a 1:1 ratio for social media but the final film will all be widescreen, I’m saving that for the final release. Below is also some test footage from the AR I’ve been developing for the project. Despite already being a year old, this project still has a way to run yet. I’m just focused on getting the app set up, and learning the publishing process first.
